Javelina Jundred and more

October 26, 2007

I’m off to Phoenix tomorrow to hang out with my girlfriend Karen for the day and then hook-up (in the 80’s context, not the 90’s context) with my hubby and friends who are all running the Javelina Jundred 100 mile trail run this weekend.

Our friend Jim Kerse came all the way from New Zealand to run the race. Well, he came to run Heartland 100 mile, which he did a couple weeks ago and Javelina is the second 100 miler for him this month. Did I mention Jim’s 59? He’s an animal. I can only hope I’m as fit and fab as Jim is when I’m 59.

Our friend Eric Troska is running his second 100 mile race of the year. He ran his first 100 miler this summer at the Tahoe Rim Trail 100 miler. So this will be a good time, a fast course and he should do well.

This is Chet’s third 100 mile of the year. He did Tahoe, Cascade Crest 100 and expected that he’ll finish Javelina. I’m excited for him. This will be his last race of the year, which is probably good since we have a zillion things to do around the house and training really makes that difficult. So, the next couple months will be just maintenance for him. But, next year is already starting to get booked with his races.

Coyote Two Moons will be his first 100 miler in March. He put in for Western States 100 again. He didn’t get in last year (it’s a lottery system for race entries). If he doesn’t get in via the lottery this year, he is guaranteed to run it in 2009. He’ll also do Tahoe Rim again and likely Cascade Crest. He’s been wanting to do Wasatch Front 100 as well as The Bear, but who knows how many he’ll do next year. This is because he has his other non-100 mile races he enjoys, like Silver State 50k, Ohlone Wilderness 50k, San Juan Solstice 50 miler (if he doesn’t get into Western States), Zane Gray Highline 50 miler, and there’s quite a few others he’s never ran yet.

Who knows….and somehow I want to squeeze in some races myself. Alas…I need them to hurry up on the hydrogen fuel cell technology soon so I can afford to travel around.

See you when we get back.
